Cookie Policy

Every piece of storage this website puts in your browser, what it is for, and how to change your mind about it.

A short policy, because there is not much to disclose: kendtech.com sets two cookies on every visit (a session cookie and your consent answer), plus at most two more that only ever appear if you take an action — a small marker if you subscribe to the briefing, and a four-minute pause if you close the newsletter panel having allowed Preferences. It loads no analytics tracker or third-party script in your browser, sells no advertising, and runs no tracking pixels. (We do count search words on our own server, in aggregate, with nothing personal attached — that sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device; the Privacy Policy explains it.) The picture beside a reader’s comment is drawn on our own server rather than fetched from another company, unless an Administrator says otherwise. Everything optional waits until you say yes — and you can say no and still browse, enquire and buy.

✦At a glance

  • Two cookies, plus one if you subscribe

A session cookie so the site works, and a consent cookie so we do not ask you again. Subscribing to the briefing adds one small marker so the panel leaves you alone, and closing the panel sets a four-minute pause — nothing else.

  • No advertising or analytics in your browser

No tracker, no pixel, no fingerprinting, no third-party measurement, and no analytics cookie. Nothing from another company is loaded to watch you.

  • Nothing optional loads first

The map panel and the AI assistant wait for your answer. The one thing that does not is disclosed below: an outside picture service that an Administrator may switch on for comment avatars, and that stays off unless they do.

  • Your choice lasts a year

Then we ask again. Change it any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.

  • It works without JavaScript

Accept or refuse with the plain buttons; the panel is a convenience.

01What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep, so the site can recognise you on the next page or the next visit. They are how a shop keeps your basket and how a site knows you have already been asked a question. A cookie cannot run code, cannot see your other files, and cannot identify you by itself.

Two related mechanisms are worth naming, because this site uses one of them: local/session storage is a slightly larger box your browser keeps for a site, which the site can read back on any visit; and pixels or fingerprinting, which we do not use at all.

02How we approach consent

A panel appears at the bottom of your first visit asking one question. Until you answer it, only the strictly necessary session cookie is set — nothing optional loads, including the campus map and the chat assistant.

  • Accepting or refusing takes one click, and both are genuinely available — the buttons look the same on purpose.
  • Your answer is stored in a cookie called kt_consent so we honour it and stop interrupting you.
  • You can change it whenever you like from the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.
  • “Do Not Track” and “Global Privacy Control” browser signals are read as a refusal of optional storage: if your browser sends one, we start you on essential only and do not nag you about it.
  • No JavaScript? The panel is a plain form and the same choices still work.

03The categories you can choose

What each category actually turns on
CategoryWhat it enablesDefaultYour choice
Strictly necessaryKeeps your session and order intact, protects forms from forged submissions, remembers your consent answer.Always onCannot be turned off
PreferencesRemembers that you closed the briefing panel, so it waits about four minutes before offering again instead of following you from page to page.OffOptional
Maps & locationLoads the Google Maps panel on the Contact page so you can get directions.OffOptional
AI assistantLets the Mr Lao chat window send your question to our AI provider and return an answer.OffOptional
AnalyticsNothing in your browser — no cookie, no script, no storage. The only counting we do is of search words, held on our own server in aggregate with no personal data attached, which needs no consent because nothing is placed on your device. Not usedNo toggle
AdvertisingNothing — no ad or remarketing technology is present. Not usedNo toggle

We are not offering you a switch for something we do not do. If we ever add analytics or a marketing tag, a new category appears in this table, the banner asks about it, and the Privacy Policy is updated before the tag goes live.

04Cookies set by this website

Name · purpose · life · data
NameSet whenPurposeLives
sessionYou arrive, or sign in to the dashboardRecognises your browser between requests so an order in progress is not lost and you are not asked to sign in on every page. Signed by our server, not readable by anyone else.Ends when you close the browser, or at the latest after the sign-in lifetime
kt_consentYou answer the cookie panelRecords which optional categories you allowed, so we do not ask again on every visit.1 year, then we ask again
kt_subscribedYou submit the briefing form with a valid emailMarks that this browser already subscribed, so the newsletter panel stops appearing for a person who is already on the list. Set by our own server, holds no personal data, and follows you nowhere.1 year
ktModalDismissedYou close the briefing panel without subscribing, and you have allowed PreferencesA four-minute “not right now” pause, so the panel does not reopen the instant you land on the next page. Holds a timestamp only.Four minutes, then it expires on its own
  • The session cookie is marked HttpOnly so scripts cannot read it, SameSite=Lax to resist cross-site abuse, and Secure whenever the site is served over HTTPS.
  • The consent cookie is deliberately readable by our own script — it is what lets the page decide whether to load the map. It holds a version and a list of category names, and nothing about you.
  • No cookie is used to build a profile, price discriminate, or follow you to another website.
  • Reading or posting in the discussion under a project story, an insight or a career page sets nothing new. The comment form rides on the same session cookie as the rest of the site, because its anti-forgery token is checked there; it also carries one hidden field that a person leaves empty and a posting bot usually fills. We keep no “this visitor has commented” cookie, and nothing you type into that form is stored in your browser.

05Storage that is not a cookie

06Third-party storage you may notice

A few outside services are involved, each for a specific reason. Only the ones you allow will set anything — with one exception, the avatar service below, which is switched on by an Administrator on the Comments desk rather than by your banner answer.

Third party · when · what happens
PartyWhen it appearsWhat it means
Google FontsEvery page, to render the typographyYour browser asks Google for a font file, so Google sees the request and your IP address. We treat this as part of delivering the design; nothing is stored on your device by it.
Google MapsOnly on the Contact page, and only if you allow Maps & locationAn embedded map panel loads, and Google sets its own cookies on that panel. Until you accept, you see a card with a button instead — and choosing “show the map” adds it to your consent.
Payment providers (bank portal, card network, PayPal, PNG facilitators)When you pay for somethingTheir checkout runs on their pages under their cookies and security. KendTech receives no card data — see the Privacy Policy. Read the provider’s own cookie notice for that page.
Our AI providerOnly if you allow AI assistant and then type a questionThe text of your question is sent to the service to generate an answer. No cookie is set for it; the choice is what gates it.
Gravatar, run by Automattic (WordPress)Only on the picture beside a reader’s comment, and only if an Administrator switches that option on — it is off by default, and the normal picture is drawn on our own serverYour browser asks Gravatar for an image using a one-way fingerprint of the commenter’s email address. No cookie is needed for it and none is set by us for it; Gravatar may recognise that fingerprint against an account its owner made. A comment whose address has no Gravatar still gets our own picture
Social networksNever on our pagesOur share buttons are ordinary links. Nothing from Facebook, X, LinkedIn or WhatsApp loads until you click one and visit them yourself.

07What happens if you block or clear cookies

  • Blocking everything — the pages still read fine, but sign-in, checkout and posting a comment stop working: all three depend on the session cookie. Enquiries by email or phone, and reading every discussion that is already published, are unaffected.
  • Allowing only essential — the site works fully. You simply see a map placeholder instead of the live panel, and the chat window asks you to allow the assistant before it sends a question.
  • Clearing cookies — your consent answer goes with them, so the panel appears again on your next visit. That is expected behaviour, not a bug.
  • Browser controls — you can allow cookies from this site only, or clear them whenever you close the browser. Look under Privacy or Site settings in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, or use the Help menu if you cannot find it.

08Managing your choice

Three ways, all equivalent: the panel on your first visit; the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page; or the button inside this policy. Each opens the same choices, and saving rewrites the kt_consent cookie immediately — no page reload needed to make the change take effect.

To withdraw consent entirely, choose “Essential only” and save. The map unloads and the assistant stops sending questions from that moment.

09Children, and this policy

This site is not directed at children under 16 and collects no information intended for them. A young visitor should make a cookie choice with a parent or guardian.

10Keeping this policy current

Reviewed every six months (next review 1 May 2027) and whenever a script, service or form changes. Document number KT-LEG-003; the effective date is printed above. If we change from “we do not use analytics” to using analytics, that is a material change and the banner will ask you again.

Questions about a cookie you found on this site — including what it is for — go to info@kendtech.com. We will tell you, because that is the whole point of this document.

ANYTHING UNCLEAR? ASK A HUMAN

We will explain it in plain language.

Cookie Policy — version 1.3, effective 3 November 2026, next review 1 May 2027. Email, call or walk in and we will tell you exactly what we hold, what a clause means for you, or how to change your cookie choice.
